Principal: María Pálmadóttir
Vice-principal: Hrönn Bergþórsdóttir
Number of students: Roughly 490 in 22 classes
Number off staff:  about 80 (46 teachers)
Area for school: Hafnarfjörður Setberg and Hlíða estate.

The Setbergs primary school was founded in 1989. In our first year we had 187 students in 11
classes. This growing number (up to 783) has been faced by adding buildings to the school ,
both for classrooms and staff.

At the moment we have 30 general classrooms and five portable ones on the grounds. We have
classrooms for carpentry, crafts, home economics, art and computers. We have a library and a
large general purpose hall where students gather for entertainment and for school meals. Our
students go for sports in the new sport hall that was built in 2005. They attend swimming in the
local pools.

We join forces with the Lækjarskólinn and the Öldutúnsskólinn to be able to offer more elective
subjects in the 10th grade, and some of these they can use at secondary school. This means
that students can choose between 15 subjects. We also join forces with Hlíðarberg
preschool/kindergarden to make the transfer from preschool to compulsory education more
subtle.
We parttake in international projects and amongst these is our participation in Socratese.
The school runs a choir ant this choir performs very often.
Our PTA was founded in 1990. The PTA and the school group up to form courses for parents,
maintain the grounds, and parents have representatives for each class to support the class social
life. The PTA also organises action such as to maintain and refurbish the school grounds.
Setrið is our local youth centre. This is very active. The school also supports social activities on
behalf of the students club or the classes.
We run a day care centre at Staðarberg 6. It runs from 7.30 to 17.30 for kids in the first four
grades.

The Setbergsskóli runs according to Icelandic laws on primary education. The school's role is to
prepare the pupils for life and work in a continually developing democratic society. We aim to
develope with the students tolerance and understanding for ways of life and people's
surroundings, for the Icelandic community, its history and specifics, and our duties for society.
We also aim to give our pupils a chance to acquire knowledge and skills and to cultivate working
habits that promote a continuous interest in seeking education and self-development. School
work is therefore to lay the foundation for independent thinking and to train pupils' ability to cooperate
with others.

This we do by cooperating with the homes of the students, by developing the respect of our
students for themselves, their parents and others who are close to them, their properties and
other peoples as well, and last but not least for their country, their surroundings and for nature
